The citation policy of the "Bulletin of Lviv National Academy of Arts" is based on the fundamental principles of academic integrity. Articles, reviews, and reports must rely on relevant, up-to-date, and verified literature. Citation is viewed not merely as a formal practice of borrowing text, but as a tool for validating scientific claims and conclusions, demonstrating context, and distinguishing the author's original contribution from the existing and established work of predecessors.
We emphasize that the author is obligated to cite not only textual sources but also data, illustrations, tables, and other materials if they are utilized within the article. Any statement that is not common knowledge or is not a direct result of the author's own research must be supported by an appropriate reference.
The reference list should be constructed based on the principle of scientific necessity, including sources that establish the research context, define its subject field, verify facts, and demonstrate the extent of prior scholarship and its relevance.
The editorial office of the "Bulletin of LNAM" does not enter into agreements or contracts for the use of materials to which the author does not hold the rights—namely, third-party illustrations, tables, photographs, text fragments, video stills, screenshots, appendices, etc. The author must clarify the legal status of such materials in advance and, if necessary, provide the editorial office with written publication permissions.
The journal's policy underscores the inadmissibility of manipulative citation—such as agreements between authors or groups of authors to artificially inflate citation indices without genuine scientific need. Excessive or unjustified self-citation intended solely to increase article volume must be avoided. Such actions will be regarded as a violation of publication ethics. The editorial office may suggest additional sources to the author based on reviewer recommendations, but only provided there is a substantive justification for their necessity.
Citations must be clear, complete, and consistent, formatted according to the style specified by the editorial board and described in the "For Authors" section. Visual materials (illustrations, photos, screenshots) must be accompanied not only by a technical description but also by a full bibliographic reference to the source from which they were retrieved.
Violations of the citation policy constitute grounds for the rejection of materials for publication in the "Bulletin of LNAM," as well as the retraction of an already published article.
