The Editorial Board of the journal "Bulletin of Lviv National Academy of Arts / Вісник Львівської національної академії мистецтв" adheres to international standards of ethical publishing practice, in particular the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Article retraction is a measure of last resort, applied only in cases where significant violations of academic integrity or technical errors affecting the validity or authenticity of the published results have been identified.
Grounds for Article Retraction
Violations of academic integrity, including:
- Identified plagiarism or self-plagiarism (significant borrowings without proper citation);
- Falsification or fabrication of data;
- Intentional misleading of readers;
- Breach of research ethics (e.g., in research involving respondents or cultural heritage objects);
- Redundant publication (submission of an article already published in another journal without proper notification to the editorial board).
Intellectual property rights infringement — if it is established that the authors have unlawfully used images, text, or other materials.
Undisclosed conflict of interest that significantly influenced the results or conclusions of the article.
Significant technical or editorial errors that distort the scientific content of the article or the research results.
Decisions by judicial authorities, state bodies, or ethics committees that recognize the publication as violating legislation or ethical standards.
Article Retraction Procedure
A review process may be initiated by:
- The author or one of the co-authors;
- A member of the Editorial Board;
- A reviewer;
- A third party who reports a violation and provides supporting evidence.
Notifications should be sent to the official editorial email address: visnyk@lnam.edu.ua.
The Editorial Board refers the matter to the Ethics Committee, which analyzes the situation in accordance with the COPE Flowcharts.
If a violation is confirmed, the Editorial Board shall make a decision regarding:
- Article retraction;
- Publication of an official retraction notice;
- Or a correction (Correction / Erratum), if the errors do not affect the fundamental conclusions of the study.
Publication of the Retraction Notice
The retraction notice is published in the upcoming issue of the journal and on the website: visnyk.lnam.edu.ua.
The original text of the article is not removed; however, the webpage and the PDF version will be clearly marked as follows:
RETRACTED by decision of the Editorial Board dated [Date, Minutes No.]. Reason for retraction: [Brief description].
The article's DOI remains active but will redirect to a page explaining the reasons for the retraction.
The retraction notice shall include:
- Full bibliographic information of the article;
- Names of the authors;
- A brief explanation of the reasons for retraction;
- The date of the decision;
- The signature of the Editor-in-Chief.
Corrections
If errors are discovered after publication but do not affect scientific validity, the editorial board shall publish a correction (Erratum). This notice will specify the location of the error, provide the correct information, and include a link to the original article.
Retraction at the Authors' Initiative
Authors have the right to submit a request for article retraction if they discover significant inaccuracies, errors, or ethical violations following publication. The Editorial Board reviews the request, renders a decision, and publishes the corresponding retraction notice.
Archiving and Information Preservation
All retracted materials remain in the journal's electronic archive with a clear "RETRACTED" designation to ensure transparency and the integrity of the scholarly record.
The editorial office does not remove PDF files from the website to avoid "gaps" in the bibliographic chain; however, it restricts the possibility of citation through Crossref (in cases of DOI identification).
Principles of Transparency
The Editorial Board guarantees:
- Timely disclosure of all retraction decisions;
- Neutrality and the absence of discrimination against authors;
- The right of authors to appeal a retraction decision to the Editorial Board or the Editor-in-Chief.
International Guidelines
The journal is guided by the following documents:
- COPE Retraction Guidelines (2019);
- Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing (COPE, DOAJ, WAME, OASPA);
- Procedure for the Formation of the List of Scientific Professional Publications of Ukraine (Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, dated March 28, 2025, paras. 8, 21).
