The importance of decorating textile materials to create an artistic image of a costume abroad of the 20th – 21st centuries: historiographic aspect

Abstract: 

The article discusses domestic and
foreign scientific publications that reveal the imagery of decorating fabrics in
the process of modeling clothing from the late twentieth to early twentieth
centuries. They are systematized and analyzed, problems are identified that
require further study, generalization or detail. Despite the huge number of
works devoted to the design of clothes and decorating fabrics of the turn of
the millennium, only a small part of scientists relate to the topic of creative
symbiosis of art textiles with modeling, despite the researchers noted a high
aesthetic level, individualization of the creative method and the prospect of
copyrighted finds of such experiments. It is noted that the art history aspect
of the figurative language of modern costume is considered by scientists
fragmentarily, often the ethnographic or technological components of the
process of shaping are emphasized. Thus, the article offers a comprehensive
historiographic analysis of interpretations in the scientific literature of figurative
finds of Ukrainian and foreign designers who turn to various traditional and
new ways of decorating textiles, confirming or violating the so-called canons
in the field of clothing design and creating new ones.
