Abstract:

The life and creative path of one of the gifted Ukrainian artist A.P. Krvavych, who belongs to the Kyiv School of graphics, studied in the Kyiv State Art Institute in 1961-1967, were considered in the article.  The publication focuses on the analysis of the artist’s prints, performed in the technique of lithography during the 1980’s in the field of easel and book graphic works. The works of famous native writers such as M. Kotsiubynskyi, L. Borovykovskyi, Y. Fedkovych were illustrated by A.P. Krvavych, as well as Ukrainian folk dumas; the portraits of outstanding Ukrainian and foreign cultural and artistic figures were created. Graphic works of the master arouse interest in the light of peculiar artist’s manner, skills, originality and complex compositional structure. One of the important characteristic of the author’s book design is compositional and plane structuring, in which the coherent picture of the complexities of literary works is formed with the help of separate character sketches, things and objects. When creating graphic works, the problem of reproduction and second thoughts of historical past of Ukrainian people, as well as artistic interpretation of folklore and ethnographic material occupy the most important place.   The artist manifested his own artistic vision, using the symbolic language and metaphor as the means of artistic expression, using contrast, assimilation and adaptation, comparison and associative series. Lithograph series of the artist deserve attention and further study of artistic and figurative features and characteristics
