Of particular importance for the development of Lviv design at the end of the 19th century had the theoretical views of I. Levyns’kyi, creatively perceived by his associates, followers and students.

The stylistic and other formative factors of the design of the environment in the capital of Galicia in the late 19th century are revealed, the work of individual artists of various nationalities from I. Levyns’kyi’s circle is analyzed in many aspects, previously unknown works of them are revealed, which are introduced into scientific circulation for the first time. In particular, the creative development in the field of environment design of J. Zachariewicz, J.-T. Kudelski, K. Boublik, A. Zachariewicz, and other associates of I. Levyns’kyi.

Formulation of the problem. The declared research topic is relevant in the context of the educational process at the Faculty of Design of Lviv National Academy of Arts. It is important to reveal the concepts of interior design of artists who interacted with the firm of I. Levyns’kyi, to investigate the theoretical foundations of the artistic organization of the subject environment in which the residents of Lviv existed at that time, to identify and compare historical levels in the development of works, their technological and stylistic changes over time, to show the relationships between different artistic techniques and design options at different stages.

The purpose of the article: to consider the design work of artists from the entourage of I. Levyns’kyi in the late 19th century, to introduce new facts, names of artists and their works into the scientific space.

Study Results. In many aspects the works of individual artists of different nationalities are analyzed, their previously unknown works, which are introduced into scientific circulation for the first time, are revealed. In particular, the creative work in the field of design of I. Levyns’kyi and his followers: J. Zachariewicz, J.-T. Kudelski, K. Boublik, J. Lubinger, A. Zachariewicz, M. Łużecki and others is studied.

Learning from the achievements of the leading European art centers, the Lviv school of design has preserved its independence and originality. The peculiarity of its representatives, especially the artists from the entourage of Ivan Levyns’kyi, was the complexity of the polyethnic structure, the multi-layered themes and motifs (the source of which were various aspects of folk life and household traditions) and the use of the treasury of regional cultural achievements.

Conclusions. The works of Lviv environmental design and architecture of the late 19th century are analyzed in this article, were performed by artists who collaborated with I. Levyns’kyi, created under the influence and in the orbit of his great figure. Of particular importance for the development of Lviv design had the theoretical views of I. Levyns’kyi, creatively perceived by his associates, followers and students.

Levyns’kyi’s worldview was characterized by a desire for rational and constructive solutions, for the harmony of architecture with nature. His views can be characterized as the theory of «rational architecture», and his associates and followers fully shared them.

The previously existing idea of Lviv design art has been significantly supplemented, and new facts and works have been introduced into scientific circulation, including those of not only architects and designers, but also painters (Eryk and Mayrycy Fleck, Fryderyk Lachner), sculptors (Leonard Marconi, Piotr Harasimowicz, Bronisław Sołtys), stained glass artists (Jozef Stauber), masters of ceramics, artistic metal (Jan Daschek) and wood (Franciszek and Jozef Wczelak, Ludwik Szafrański).
