Abstract:

The article explores the transformation of the traditional Ukrainian stove as a cultural and architectonic phenomenon within the context of contemporary interior design. Based on the analysis of ethnographic and architectural studies, the evolution of the perception of the stove is traced — from the central element of vernacular residential architecture to an object of modern design interpretation. Particular attention is devoted to the Hutsul stove, distinguished by its structural and decorative features and serving as a symbolic element of local culture. The study identifies the main typological and architectonic characteristics of the stove, outlining its functional and aesthetic roles. It has been established that in the modern living environment, the image of the traditional Ukrainian stove finds multiple interpretations — from fireplaces to decorative or functional art objects — while preserving its symbolic status as the domestic hearth and harmoniously integrating into the spatial structure of contemporary housing. The potential of the stove as a source of inspiration for ethnodesign and as a means of integrating cultural heritage into current design practices is emphasized. The study also highlights risks emerging in contemporary design processes — primarily excessive decorativeness and the loss of the authentic meaning of traditional forms.
