The philosophy of beauty and harmony: weaving and pastels by Iryna Min’ko-Muraschyk (based on the works at the personal exhibition at the National Museum in Lviv in 2020)

Abstract: 

This article analyzes the weaving and pastel works by I. Min’ko-Muraschyk that played a significant role in the Lviv art school development in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The following research methods were used: biographical, descriptive, comparative-historical and the method of artistic analysis. The article relates to the study of the artworks by O. Min’ko. His daughter, I. Min’ko-Muraschyk continues her father's art traditions, but she also has her own creative vision. Her artworks are famous in Ukraine, represented in neighbouring Poland, and attract collectors from Europe, the USA and even distant China. She is a recipient of many honours and awards. It has been revealed that the mini tapestries by I. Min’ko-Muraschyk show the new interpretation of artistic values of avant-garde and modernism, fine art and the technological and technical abilities of decorative weaving. Unlike calm pastel works, the artist's weaving is characterized by the sharp form of expression and some dramatic source. Important prototypes for I. Min’ko-Muraschyk's weaving are her father's paintings. Religious works of art are losing their iconic significance and are acquiring only aesthetic meaning, philosophical undertone. The artist creates still life and landscape paintings in pastel. Romantically-realistic perception, close attention to detail, redefining of what has been seen and a great technique is common to her pastel works. In late 2020, the retrospection of weaving, pastels and a catalogue of the new artworks by I. Min’ko-Muraschyk were exhibited at the Lviv National Museum. The role of the artistic achievements by I. Min’ko-Muraschyk has been defined.
