Abstract:

The paper deals with the leading features of the development of modern professional art textile. It is traced in what ways it develops today and what creative tasks are solved by Ukrainian artists. In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in modern textile which is a complex and vivid phenomenon in the decorative art of Ukraine.

An important aspect of the development of this decorative art type is the realization of exhibition projects making the possibility to analyze the trends of the textile present.

It is noted that the initiative of realization of artistic projects connected with art textile for a long time is supported by the Lviv Palace of Art. In the context of different exhibitions art textile works act as full-fledged and sometimes dominant showpieces among painting and graphic works. The research is conducted on the basis of the «Textile Inspirations» art project which took place at the Lviv Palace of Art in 2018.

The aims of this study are to determine the artistic and stylistic features of decorative textile works, to consider the notable features of the author's language of the Ukrainian artists such as D. Yakymchuk, E. Sierpionova, L. Bogaychuk, O. Lukovska, O. Borysenko, A. Golodetska, K. Ganeychuk, U. Hrynyk, H. Stebliy and many others.

An important source of information during writing the article was the catalogue of the «Textile Inspiration» exposition which contains text and visual material of the exhibition concept, author's motto and photos of creative works.

In addition, an important theoretical base was the art investigations made by T. Kara-Vasilieva, Z. Chegusova, K. Gonchar and other authors who studied certain aspects of the textile art at various stages of its development. The information base for writing the article was also personal interviews with the authors.

So far the method of art analyses and comparison were applied to have a deep understanding of artists` creativity and their artworks.

The present results have shown that today the general principles of art understanding are changing, the traditions of folk art not disappearing completely appear in the new forms and are interpreted in a new way.

It is noted that art textile becomes an important tool for artists` experimental searches. Works of the exhibition have demonstrated a rich arsenal of textile techniques and materials – traditional weaving, both cold and hot batik, free painting on fabric, industrial textile printing, etc. Very often authors use so-called «authorial» techniques and combination – application, collage, gluing, felting, embroidery, etc.

The results of the research support show that contemporary artists are interested in problems of knowing the properties and features of different materials, as well as the interaction of volume and space. It is emphasized that an appreciable feature of modern art textile is tactile sensation, which is just as important as vision or hearing.

Tactile feelings along with visual images expand the perception of the world, making it more voluminous. In the tactile of the material particularly accent S. Mikhnovsky, O. Tsymbalyuk, L. Bogaychuk and others.

It was noted that at the exhibition there was a decrease of interest in the creation of volumetric compositions. There were only a few small objects and installations in the exposition, but most of the works interacted with space due to the texture of the materials and did not go beyond the wall.

We conclude that art textile attracts not only textile artists, but also artists of other types of creativity that never worked in the textile area such as V. Stasenko, O. Zherebetska, O. Ros, O. Rudenko and others. The process of creating sketches was long enough as the material dictated its terms. However, the work with fabric in combination with modern painters` experience, graphic artists, ceramists, designers gave the original result.

It is noted that the broad plastic possibilities of art textile even in the Soviet times attracted not only artists with professional education, but also artists-monumentalists who skillfully used its specifics.

The study has parallels with the European Art Textile showing that similar trends are typical for many artists in Poland, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic. A description of important tendencies in textile was made on the example of the Slovakian artist E. Tsisarova-Minarikova. A number of decorative works performed by her were analyzed.
